I’m sorry but this is stupid as hell. In the animal kingdom, a “workout” is running or fighting for your life. It’s a violent and maximum effort explosive movement through space. Your body would blow through its glycogen stores and be releasing large quantities of CO2. You should be heaving and gasping for air. And it’s a short durational event.

I myself am just getting started with sandbag training and i want to buy a proper one but don't know which one to choose, whether it's the fixed-weight ones (perhaps get a 45 and a 60 kg to start) or a fillable one, like the Ironmind large sandbag so that i can start relatively light and then work my way up in weight by adding in more and more sand. Right now i am training with a very basic, home made version of it, but it's only 30 kg or so, and i'm using an old gym bag that is already starting to come apart at the seams, so i need to upgrade to a proper sandbag. What would you suggest between Cerberus, Rogue and Ironmind? Thanks!

I recognise the skill of this master. I fully understand teaching dangerous techniques; they are part and parcel of any accomplished system, but can I ask why are you showing back breaks and other techniques on a youtube video? My initial assumption is that traditional martial arts gets a bad rap precisely because of MMA, which sells itself on its putative effectiveness and brutality. Are you showing that traditional martial arts also has this element? I understand that traditional chinese martial arts face an uncertain future because of mixed martial arts. And I can understand that you showing these techniques is a way of advertising to get students to come and learn. But i also see chinese martial arts as a way of life and a spirituality, and I worry that by doing this, you essentially throw the baby out with the bath water.

I cannot use the mace for anything other than mace training. The sledge at least gives me the option of using it for something other than training. Sledge available everywhere. Mace might require a shipping costs too. Cost wise, i can buy a 4.5kg sledge for between $58 and over $200 depending on brand and material. 4kg Mace is $49 cheapest I can find but next cheapest is $68 on special but add shipping. Not all maces have a large grip - as shown by the flowing dutchman. Use what is available to you at a price you are willing to pay, and get what you are willing to use.

Is there a big cost difference? 🤔 Can't one start with a sledgehammer if it's significantly cheaper? What ways could you use to thinken the handle? Ducktape? Thanks for explaining the differences and the benefits. 💪

To everyone who practices with a macebell only unilaterally (perhaps because they mostly practice bilaterally with other instruments), I recommend including bilateral exercises with a heavy macebell... For these three reasons: 1. Heavier macebell = more emphasis on the stabilizing muscles of the torso. When I go one-handed with a 6kg macebell, it's a completely different feeling for the torso and hips than when I go two-handed with a 12kg macebell... 2. The path of movement of the arms and shoulders is DIFFERENT in the case of one-handed and two-handed "swinging"/ with macebell... 3. Swinging a macebell with one hand has its irreplaceable place in training with a macebell, BUT... when swinging a macebell with two hands, for example, you engage the muscles of the chest DIFFERENTLY. When swinging with a macebell with two hands, you will feel more work not only in the core, but also in the chest (it "pumps up" more). And that's because when swinging a macebell with two hands, you squeeze your hands together and the chest reacts to it MORE than in the case of one-handed spinning... A year ago, I thought that it was enough to practice with the macebell one-handed, and that I would not benefit from two-handed (with more weight, of course) spinning... I WAS WRONG. Now I do half of the "spinning" with the macebell with two hands and half with one hand...
